Canada Reopens Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program in Late July

Ottawa, July 16, 2025 – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will reopen this year, with plans to accept up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications.

Starting July 28, 2025, IRCC will begin sending out invitations to apply to selected individuals over a two-week period. These invitations will be sent to people who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form back in 2020 but haven’t yet received an invitation. If you applied in 2020, be sure to check your email—including your spam and junk folders—for any updates.

Because there are still many applications in the 2020 pool, IRCC will continue selecting from that list instead of reopening the form to new applicants this year.

How to Apply

Those who are invited to apply this year can submit their applications online through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Portal, depending on who is applying on their behalf.

Didn’t Get Invited? Consider a Super Visa

If you don’t receive an invitation in this round, there is still an alternative. Your parents or grandparents may qualify for a Super Visa, which allows them to visit Canada multiple times over a 10-year period. They can stay for up to 5 years per visit, with the option to extend their stay by 2 more years without needing to leave Canada.

For more details about how this program has worked in recent years, you can view the Parents and Grandparents Program Intake Report (2020–2022) available on IRCC’s official website.

Reunite with Your Loved Ones Through Canada’s Family Sponsorship Program

The Parents and Grandparents Program helps bring families together. If you’ve been waiting since 2020, this could be your year to finally sponsor your loved ones. Whether through permanent residency or a Super Visa, there are options available to help you reunite with your family in Canada.

Tips for Applicants
  • Make sure you have all income documents (e.g., CRA Notices of Assessment) ready
